Tomasz Husak

Mr. Tomasz Husak, a graduate of the Warsaw’s School of Economics – SGH (PhD in Economics) and University Paris – Est (PhD in Political Science).

He began his career in the Polish diplomatic service in 2003 and was assigned to European affairs from the start. In 2014, he received the Silver Cross of Merit in recognition of his service to the State and to Europe. He worked as Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2005 – 2006.

In 2007, Mr. Husak was assigned to the Permanent Representation of Poland to the European Union where he served as advisor (Antici) from 2008 to 2012. In 2011, he chaired the Antici group during the first Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

He continued his career as deputy director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland at the Directorate for Coordination of European Affairs between 2012-2013.

In January 2014 he became Deputy Permanent Representative of Poland to the European Union and represented Poland in COREPER I.

On November 1, 2014, Mr. Husak joined the European Commission as Head of Cabinet 

to Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska (internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and SMEs).

One of his main areas of interest in the cabinet was space policy and the defence industry. He notably coordinated works on the development of the first European space strategy in 2016. He very actively supported all the difficult decisions which enabled the successful deployment of the two constellations Galileo and Copernicus.

He was one of the leading figures in the Commission on the future of the European Defence Industry, promoting and negotiating the legislative proposal on the European Defence Fund.  

Today he continues his career within the European Commission as Advisor for Digital and Data technologies in the Directorate General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), former Directorate General for Development and Cooperation (DG DEVCO) where his main area of interest remain space programs and cyber-security.

In addition to his mother tongue Polish, he speaks French, English and German.
